Legal Considerations for Multicolor Lighting Kits

Our multicolor lighting kits are designed with safety and legality in mind. All of our kits include legal white and amber colors, which are perfectly suitable for on-the-road use in all 50 U.S. states.

However, colors like red, green, and blue are generally intended for off-road use only. While these colors are technically restricted on highways and public roads, many of our customers enjoy using them without issues.

Think of it like window tinting: while some shades are technically outside the legal limits, they’re often overlooked by law enforcement, especially if used responsibly. In our experience, most drivers who use multicolor lighting don’t face fines or tickets, even for colors like red, blue, or green.

Personally, I’ve had custom LED lights, including multicolor kits, on all my vehicles for over five years. In that time, I've been pulled over three times and received only warnings—no tickets. So, while the law may be strict in certain areas, enforcement is often lenient in practice, especially if you're driving responsibly.

We do recommend avoiding flashing red or blue lights or using any flashing mode while on public roads, as these can draw unnecessary attention. For on-road driving, it's best to stick to solid, non-distracting colors. Feel free to have fun with flashing and flowing effects when you're off-road (in parking lots, at car shows, or on private property).

We hope this guide gives you a clear understanding of the legalities of using multicolor lighting, and helps you enjoy your lights safely and responsibly!
